COURSE OVERVIEW

Lockout/tagout is a set of procedures used to disconnect and isolate sources of power to machines, pieces of equipment, and other devices in order for them to be safely inspected and maintained. Performing lockout and tagout before placing yourself in the path of a potential release of hazardous energy is required by both your organization and by OSHA; it is also a logical way to protect yourself from injury or death. Every time a worker bypasses safety guards in order to service a machine, lockout/tagout must be performed; it is also required before a worker places any part of his or her body in contact with a machine's point of operation. Only the employees authorized to perform lockout/tagout can do so, these are the employees trained in such procedures by their employers. OSHA differentiates between two other classes of employees: affected employees and other employees. You will learn the distinctions here, as well as information critical to effectively, and safely, performing a lockout/tagout. Protect yourself, and others, through the information presented in this training lesson..
